Knowing who you’re buying from can make a difference . . .

It’s important to know who you’re buying from, and here is just one reason— I’ve heard from several racers (some weekends I’m personally at as many as 3 tracks) about getting wrong information as a buyer, and ending up with equipment that did not meet spec. At one event recently, 3 drivers had been advised that the helmet they were buying from a recognized source would be legal for what they were doing, only to find out the day of the race that they were not legal. Fortunately I carry product with me to the track, so their race day was not done at tech.

After stepping away from the safety equipment business as the result of Pyrotect Racing Safety Equipment being sold and relocating out of state, I began to receive telephone calls from a number of racers I’ve known or done business with, calls from many of my old dealers as well as hearing from a few of the racing publications, many of them telling me that I need to stay in the business. With all of this support, and after conferring with my family, I decided to get back in the business, only this time as the owner of my own company, Competition Safety Gear.

For those who I’ve not yet had the chance to meet, or to do business with, I’ve been racing for a number of years, from drag racing, to circle track to off road racing, starting in quarter midgets many years ago. My racing interest had brought me into contact with many good friends, the results of which eventually led to my being offered and accepting the position of CEO of BELL Racing in Rantoul, Illinois. Later, after leaving BELL, I got the opportunity to assist in managing Pyrotect Racing Safety Equipment, located at the time in Oakland California.

All of this being said, I’m happy to be back in the business and look forward to working with everyone in making your racing experience a safe one.
